I digress, I am aware that my non-sensical politcal ramblings are most likely annoying, but I can't help it. Some people incite extreme amounts of hostility and anger within me and I guess I have few places to explode but here. While listening to Michael Medved, a conservative talk show host, as I was working out at the gym I became enlightened and inspired. I'm not really sure if it was the endorphins or his insight, but it was magical anyway. He devoted a portion of his segment to a discussion of former President Jimmy Carter's recent vocal dissaproval of President Bush's administration and policy on war. Medved, being the visionary that he is, invited those who agreed with former President Carter to call in and answer some questions. More information on what Carter said can be found HERE. So what happened was that the first caller accused President Bush of invading Iraq not only for oil, but also to avenge his father. The most hilarious part was that the caller refused to explain her reasoning and told Medved that "she couldn't explain the reasons if he didn't already understand them". Oh the hilarity.
First of all, if Bush really wanted the oil he could have easily purchased it pre-war much like my favorite country of France did. Why waste billions and more fighting a war for a couple of barrels of oil. Secondly, no sane administration would justify any kind of war to satisfy the personal vendettas of its leaders. This assumes that (a) the Bush administration is sane and (b) that personal vendettas are not justified causation for a war. Towards the end of the conversation the woman refused to admit that the world is safer now than it was prior to the administrations response to terrorist groups. Funny that during Clinton's reign there were more major attacks on US targets than post 9/11 during the Bush administration. So I guess Clinton's "era of peace" was more like the "era of ignorance".
If you happen to be in the Twin Cities area and willing to shell out some cash you can catch Michael Medved at the Sheraton on April 28th. Otherwise, tune in to AM 1280 the Patriot at 2PM to absorb some intelligence. If you're out of the area, live streams are available HERE.
